Next Stop: Lincoln Park Zoo

It's
been almost two months since Billy left Chicago for Afghanistan. In fact, we are nearing our ninth wedding anniversary and for the first time since we married, we'll be spending it half a world apart. He'll be gone for one year. And then he'll come back. At least that's what he told me. He appears to be doing good work over there. I'm daily proud of my ever loving, brave husband.

I hope he'll post a blog about some of the experiences he's having meeting Afghans, and going outside the base and speaking with government officials. He has rich stories to tell already.

Meanwhile, we are re-adapting to life back in the States. No more bustling outdoor markets, but libraries galore. No more Ada, the recreational island that we so enjoyed in Belgrade, but also no more small cars on the bike paths! There are endless pros and cons to both worlds. We are fortunate that we experienced the rich, Serbian culture and met such warm, kind people. And we are lucky to be home, near friends and family who are helping take care of us during this time of adjustment without Billy/Daddy.

I think I found the last parking spot available in the City of Chicago on Sunday when I took the boys to the Lincoln Park Zoo. The gods were looking down on us. These are pics from last week and earlier this summer.
