The boys were in school and I went to Zemun. My friend - of 27 years -, Sarah, is visiting. She must really like Belgrade. This is her third visit. We're delighted to have her though, especially as Billy is away and the boys are missing their Daddy. Sarah is wonderful with the kids and is great company for me. Having visitors is a great excuse to go off the usual, beaten track, so we went to the old city of Zemun, and happily, my neighbor, Tanya and her baby Viola, joined us. We took a walk up to the tower where we could see the red roof tops below, and Belgrade in the distance, along with the confluence, where the Sava and Danube rivers meet. We ate grilled squid and drank a beer sitting by the water. The sun was peeking in and out, offering warmth in its presence and a real chill in its absence. The kind waiter brought us each our own blanket. He even tucked it around my lap for me! After lunch we took a walk along the river, admiring the Zemun Quay.
